The Story Behind Breathless Haste

✨ The story behind Breathless Haste began five years ago.

For more than a decade, Rebecca felt a tug on her heart to write about God’s presence in her family’s life. Along the way, friends and even strangers encouraged her to write a book with the stories they had heard or witnessed.

In 2020, Rebecca shared some of her early chapters with her 97-year-old mother, who asked: “Is Jay writing his stories too?” At first, Jay resisted—fresh off finishing his doctoral dissertation—but after much conversation, he joined the effort.

That October, they outlined 14 chapters, and assigned the writing responsibilities. They then launched breathlesshaste.com to share devotionals and stories as they wrote. Their desire? To point to the ways they’ve experienced God’s presence—through people, prayer, scripture, miracles, nature, and His still small voice. Their prayer is that these stories inspire you to notice God’s extraordinary presence in your own life.

In October 2022, Breathless Haste: Finding God in Ordinary Life was accepted by hope*books, and in December 2023 it launched into the world.
